Dear 2011

Today is the last day of the year.
Dinner is almost in the fridge. I just need to cook the muffin.
Chocolate/coconut, like last year... But a surprise ingredient will be added this year....

I think... It's gonna be good !

But before that, I still have few things to do. Cleaning some stuff, buy some books... write the review of this terrible year !

Let's go !

First of all, I'm sorry, I didn't post a lot this December !
I've been busy busy and this last week, I really didn't have the time to !

Sister arrived home on Friday morning on December 23rd, Brother and Cc on December 24th just a few hours before my Grand Parents. In between, one of my Dad's satellites decided to play with his nerves, he almost had to go to his office to fix the problems !
Christmas was nice, we were 13 (other Grand Parents, Aunts, Uncle, Cousin), we had a lot of fun.
The week was really short, and ended with my brother's birthday, 30 this year.

Brother and Cc left on Thursday afternoon, sister yesterday morning. The house is so quiet now....
My Christmas break "ended" yesterday afternoon when Jack shared his last ideas.
You know me, I can't say no, so now, it's not one database that I have to check, but three ! Wonderful ! This is why I really really have to buy one book this afternoon !! I have to buy THE French Bible :

Mine is a 2008 one... TOO OLD !!! Don't tell him that kind of books exists here or he won't need me anymore ! :)
(well, no, in fact you can tell him, it's all in French !) - (now, I feel bad, I swear I'll be nice with him now, and I failed, again ! Sorry darling !)

Anyway !

Dear 2011 !
It was nice to meet you, but now, it's time for you to go away ! I checked all the posts I wrote in 2011, and what I can say is that, I can't wait to meet 2012 !!!!
Dear 2011, you started well, and I don't know why, you fuckep up everything !

In January, after many months and hours, I passed the driving test a very last time and finally got it, without telling to the others I was passing ! The same month, I celebrated the first birthday of this blog, and received one of the best gifts ever !!

In February, I booked gigs for a new artists and this gig gave me the opportunity to meet a very old friend. And, because he's the only one who can do that, he broke my heart again and saved it with a smile ! Unfortunately, the first bad news was also in February, when my Mum emailed us to announce us the first death in our family. Tonton Louis was the first to leave.

In March, when I was trying to save one Zizic Maestro concert, the Orchestra announced that my contract was ending late April. It killed me. But March had some good moments : my ancient postman saying "hum, I know that kind of stamp, and because it says Préfecture des Yvelines, I guess it's a Driving Licence !" THANK YOU MISTER POSTMAN !!!!!! :)

In April, the Orchestra offered me a wonderful Christmas gift : Archive ft Orchestre Lamoureux. I was really sad to leave, but, so happy to see this incredible band on stage ! Later that month, I was leaving home to Gare du Nord to welcome 9 people.... Josh's April tour ...

In May, I realized that working with my boys was really hard, cuz there are so nice that I want more. We had to cancel a part of the tour, and unfortunately, it brings other bad news to my family. I tried to forget my Aunt's cancer with an incredible gig... Jarring Effects crew in Versailles for one night, revenge of the ex-intern !! (French post)

In June, I booked a crazy gig for Music Day, but was unable to fix the last details because of another bad news in the Family. I realized how hard my job can be when I tried to explain to the band I cannot fix it because of personal problems. When they answered they didn't care about what happened to me, I should have answer "It's the second Great-Uncle I lose in less than 6 months and I'm praying for my Great-Aunt who's fighting against a liver-cancer". I cannot say that. The gig was "sold-out !" (it was free so, we can't say sold out).

In July, we celebrated Mum's birthday with the entire family, and met Cc, my brother's girlfriend. I booked two gigs for Gary in September, and had to deal with the poster for another tour. I kinda lost my nerves because, I spent so much time on that stupid poster that I cannot work properly on the communication for Gary. I was really sad, and of course, there is somebody who doesn't know that !

In August, I left two weeks in Italy and finally visited Venezia ! Just two days after, I was back to work for posters... In my concern, I consider it ended really bad.

In September, I had two empty gigs, a great one, and another bad news. After that, it's like only bad stuffs happened to me.

In October, I spent almost everyday at Job Center, and was afraid about going to L'International on October 11rst.

November was a pretty bad month too. Other fights again Job Center, and paranoia in my mind ! London was supposed to be a great trip, and, well, I think that it was a bad idea...

And what about December ? I celebrated one year of posters, got ready for a great Christmas time, and thought about resolutions. And if I can add one, I'd like to add that in 2012, I'd like to become egoistic and heartless. To be sure that people will stop playing with my nerves and feelings !

Now it's time to finish my tea and leave to buy my book ! Happy new year readers !

God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen

It's time for the last shopping and last details !

A lot of things happened and it looks like some "resolutions" come in my mind...

First of all, on December 13rd, our Zakky boy (from A Joker's Rage) said he was driving his fiancée to the hospital, the next day, he was posting an adorable picture of their little Jacobi ! We are all sooooo happy for them !!!
And, it's so strange to realize that, now, one of my rockers is a dad !!!!

Last week, when I had my crazy-useless-days, Jack sent me some good news (that I cannot share with you right now) about Josh's upcoming album. It's nice to know that he needs me for some stuff, not only booking gigs. What is not nice to know when it's almost Christmas and that, here, there is a lot of things to do, is learning that I have to check and update a BIG database from now to mid-January !!
It's probably THE thing that I really really hate cuz it's more than boring (well no, there is also adding gig to every French musical websites ! Don't know which one is the worst !), and I have other stuffs to do right now... like packing my Dad's birthday gift and find a bday gift for my big brother who's turning 30 next week !

The "good" news is that I finally found all the Xmas gift ! Pretty good when we know that I have to deal 3 birthdays AND Christmas ! Thank you life ! :)
My sister arrives tomorrow morning, and my brother and Cc on saturday morning, so are my Grand-Parents. I let you imagine the panic at home... Today is Dad's birthday, he's just back from Cairo, he has to go to India in January, he's on holidays tomorrow evening, my Mum is a little bit angry cuz he never really takes days-off, we still have some food to buy tomorrow and cook. In between, it will be cleaning everywhere ! With almost 15 people for Christmas, you can understand that I really don't have the time to update the database....

And now, the resolutions.

It came to me the other night, watching Disney's the Beauty and the Beast.
As I said, few days before, Zakk announced that his son was born. I thought about my friends and realized that a lot of them are happy couples, some are engaged, other have kids. I don't know if it's the Christmas spirit or something, but I admit that sometimes I'd like to think about future.
In the same time, I noted an extract from the book I'm reading, The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society.
Because I don't know if you read it or not (or want it or not), I'm gonna try to not spoil. But, FYI, the book is a compilation of letters between people living in Guernsey Island and a Lady-writer based in London in 1946. The book is awesome !
Anyway. One of the letter is written by one of the women of the book, writing to a friend. She talks about tha guy she met and she likes. She thinks that some romantic feelings are between them, and finally realize that she's completely wrong. He's nice with her just because he needs her help.
I read the letter, and thought that... I was not the only one !

Maybe it's time for me to write down the name of the guys I thought I like, and burn the paper. Turn the page, move on.

Because it's December, all the magazines are publishing January issues with the annual horoscopes. I read two or three magazines, don't remember, and they are all talking about professional success and romance. I don't know if I have to believe in it or not !

Another resolution, is that in few days, this old laptop is gonna die (don't tell him right now, it's a secret between you and I ! - yes, him, my laptop always been a dude !). Because I wanna be sure to lose nothing this time, I'm already saving all my datas ! Serious resolution, delete the old 2010-2011 covering letters and write real new ones.
Every time I'm applying to a job, I write a new letter, and always use a paragraph from the old one, cuz I like the way I wrote it. It's time to change.
I sent a last résumé this week, with a brand new covering letter. I hope they will, at least, call me back to tell me they got it.

There are resolutions N°1 and N°2.

Of course, there are others. Cleaning a little bit more different rooms in the house (for example, I think it's been 1 week or 2 I have to clean my desk... this dust is ... not cute...), like checking the doctors early in 2012, do the things in the right time, stop swearing all the time (dear laptop, I'm really sorry for all the bad words I said to you !!), drive on the Parisian ring road (no laugh please !) and learn how to go out our parking with our car without crashing it against the wall or the door... (our garage is really really hard, we see nothing, got no space to do a real manoeuvre, and the wall are a little bit askew. So, going out is always a mission...)

But now, it's almost time for me to leave. No music quizz tonight cuz the last of the year was last week, but for a show for my Dad's birthday. We're going to the Slava's Snowshow.
I have only one little problem. I'm afraid of clowns (long story, because of the film It), and... it's a clown. (I think I should be alright !)

Christmas Time...

Last week, I realized that Christmas was almost there... So strange feeling !
Sorry, I didn't post this week cuz I've been a little bit busy !!

On Monday, I had the job interview. Because it was good company with great artists, I spent the week-end and the monday morning listening to every bands, just in case.
You know what, the interview lasted 5 minutes, maybe less. Why ? Cuz the woman told me she didn't understand I created my own company (well, there is a sentence in my covering letter saying "I created my company in November 2010" and a line in my CV saying "creation of the company as self-employed in November 2010"... So I don't understand what she didn't understand). So she said that to me, and the boss added "You're just a junior and we want a senior"... Ok, usual people mentioned it on the offer...
50 minutes of train and subway for just two details they could have seen on my résumé if they really read it !

When I left, I was really angry ! I went for some Xmas shopping, and failed. The shop I wanted to go to was closed ! I went back home really tired and really angry.

Tuesday was a "lazy" day. I sent some emails about Josh, and had some ideas I wanted to share with Jack. My stupid jokes amused him. And, it made me forget that the day before was a really bad one !

On Wednesday, I went to a meeting for young adults like me who cannot find a job. I left home with résumés and a loft of motivation. In the subway, one add gave me more motivation.
I saw it and stopped, smiling and laughing. People around me were probably wondering why...

(what about you... do you know why I stopped and laughed ?)

I arrived at the Carousel du Louvre and laughed again. BIG BIG queue for the meeting... I waited around 30 minutes, and heard a guy from the Security saying
"We are sorry but you are too many, we have to close the entry because of security, come back tomorrow"
They closed just after me... So lucky ?
I finally went inside and left : impossible to walk and see the stands... It was worse than the subway during the strikes !!!
I left, angry and went back to my Xmas shopping. This time, the shops were all opened. I ended the day almost dead.

On Thursday, I went back. Less people but still a lot. I waited one hour before being able to talk to one of the company that said to me "sorry, we're not hiring" (so... Why are you here today ?)
I let you imagine how I was feeling....  I got 10 letters, 50 mails and 100 sms about this meeting and what do I hear "Come back tomorrow" and "sorry, we're not hiring"... What was the add for this ? Oh yes, "Come we have a job for you"...

I stood at the Carousel a little bit to drink a tea and left for the music quiz. The good news of the day was that we won this Quiz, the 100th edition, the last one of the year ! That was nice ! (and this one was pretty hard because it was a live one, so, impossible to try to recognize the voices if we didn't know the song...)

Friday was lazy... I slept only 6 hours, and I felt it all day long !
The evening, I was supposed to go to the Gala of my ancient school. But, because of the really really bad weather, I decided to not go. And that day, I received a joke.
On Friday morning, I got an email from Monday-company : "Thank you for your email, but your application was not accepted"... Before answering I wondered what the email means ?
Did they send it forgetting they met me on Monday or did they think I did not understand their "sorry, it's not gonna work for us, you're too young"... Anyway, I answered "thank you for your email and for meeting me on Monday afternoon".
No answer....

Now, it's time for the last Xmas and Bday shopping (I still have to find something for my big brother's birthday... 30 this year... just 3 days after Xmas !)

Sunday Stealing

It's Sunday, the weather is announcing Winter outside : cold, grey, humid.... BAD !!!! I don't want snow !!!!
Mum and Dad are out so, I'm working watching some Harry Potter movies, and polishing my nails... Gotta stay cool and relax until tomorrow...

30 Years of Music

FYI, I'm thinking about this post since 3 or 4 days. Didn't find the time to write it for good. Until now !

30 years ago was 1981, the year my big brother was born.

French President was François Mitterrand.
The European Union was the European Economic Community.
R. Reagan was the American President.
Chariots of Fire was released in Cinemas, and was winning the Oscar of Best Movie.

Bob Marley was dying in May.
French Minister Jack Lang was creating the Music Day on June 21st.
MTV was created and broadcasting the first video clip ever : Video Killed the Radio Star by The Buggles.
French singer Georges Brassens was dying in October.
I Love Rock'n'Roll was released by Joan Jett and the Blackhearts.

It was in the Golden Years of great bands like Kiss, Motorhead, Mötley Crüe, Black Sabbath or Ozzy Osbourne. But, it was also the time to leave some space for a new band. Metallica.
Born on October 28th 1981.

This week, the band was celebrating their 30th birthday with a week of gigs in San Francisco. I wonder why I didn't spend the week there !

I remember, I discovered the band in 1991 or 1992, don't remember. At this moment, my big brother bought the Black Album. I remember that one day, I asked him if he could copy one of the songs. I didn't know the title, the only thing I knew was that it was a calm one, and a long one...
I also remember that, in Junior High, one of my friends really like the band, and I borrowed him the Symphonic and Melodic album to copy it on a tape. I think that the tape ended dead. I listened to it soooo much.

And then, around 2001-2002 the band disappeared. And, I admit that I kinda stop listening to it (at this time, I think that I owned none of the albums).
In October 2003, on my way to school, I blenched. I was concentrated on the music I was listening, and leaving my subway to another, my eye was attracted by 3 big adds.
Metallica released few weeks/months before their new record St Anger, and they were promoting the upcoming tour ...
Believe me, a giant poster with this picture turns Lars Ulrich as a giant, and seeing pointing you like that when you're leaving the subway a little bit sleepy, well... you blench ! I saw this same poster during few weeks. It was sweet. Saying hello every morning. I was kinda sad the day they put the adds down.

I think I bought my first Metallica records at this moment. The Black Album and Symphonic and Melodic. The two I listened to everytime. Probably the best for me.

I really re-discovered Metallica when they released Death Magnetic.
The critics about Load and Reload were not really good or nice, and so, Musical journalist were really waiting for this new record.
In class, one of my teacher talked about Death Magnetic. I don't remember why he mentioned it and made us listening for the intros of some tracks. But, whatever. It reminds me that I had only a few of their records.
This same year, I bought all the others. The last I bought was Garage Inc.

In between, I watched the video from S&M concert, watched Some Kind of Monster and fell in love with the band.

My first thesis was about the relation ship between the disc and the Internet. It was a study of how we consume music (God, I hate saying that ! It's impossible to consume music, music has to be listened !!! not consumed ! You have to listen, understand, imagine, being inspired by the music, you have to take care of it, not consume it as you consume tabloids !!) I was trying to understand why people were downloading music on P2P sites rather buying CDs, this beautiful thing (ok, not as beautiful as a vinyl record !) And so, I wrote a short text about Napster, and so about Metallica. Well, not about Metallica, but mostly about Lars Ulrich, cuz he's the one who really did something against Napster and P2P.
I wrote 2 pages I think (the thesis was about 100 pages, maybe 90...)
I didn't really have the time to work on the Napster problem, was a little bit short in time, and didn't really know how to include it into the rest of the thesis. So, I just wrote two pages.

It wasn't really a problem, cuz, I had to write a second thesis.
I use a part of the first one to write this new thesis. And, so, I had the time to work on Napster.
I read a lot of books and articles about it. They were all referring to Metallica. I re-watched Some Kind of Monster, and watched again and again the part about Napster and how it broke the band (in between of a lot of other problems) and cried.
In April 2009, when I was working on this thesis, Metallica was introduced to the Rock'n'roll Hall Of Fame. I saw the video, and cried again.
This time, I wrote something like 50 pages about it, a chapter or two, I don't remember. Explaining what the problem really was, and how powerful bands were trying to fight against it, losing some fans yelling against them because they think it's all about money. I loved writing this thesis, and promised to myself that, if one day I had to write a new one, it will be about the band !

For me, Metallica is not just music. It's also four human beings who faced a lot of problems and terrible moment. Always strong, even when Cliff Burton died in September 86 (at this moment, I was born ! :))
They're composing and playing the music they want and love, took some risk, fought against those who were stealing copyrights, and realized that they needed a break far away from everything if they didn't want to kill what they accomplished until now.
I have a lot of respect for them. I really do. And, yes, I love their music. And adore the risks they take, when they release records like Load and Reload, or mix their music with a Symphonic Orchestra...
But... if I have one reproach, it will be : guys, what the fuck is Lulu ? Recording an album with Lou Reed is a good idea, but, OMG, this record sucks !!!

If I had to post one video to close this post (that is finally really different from what I had in mind...) well... I'll choose... I don't know.

The Four Horsemen - by Metallica

PS :
As you know 2011 is not the best year for me, and I'm really sorry for anger and sadness in my posts.
My London time was not perfect.
I realized some things, and started doubting about a lot of other things. For example, why am I doing that, and am I just a dictionary for them or a real partner. Unfortunately, since this doubts are in my mind, I'm paranoid and suffer a little bit more. It's stupid, I know, but... with, maybe, 10 bad months on 12, I try to not see the bizarreness of my mind ! The pain, I guess.
Anyway. I'm doubting, but the "good" news is that I have a job interview on Monday afternoon.
I believe in my bands, if I'm working with them it's because I truly love their music and believe in their success. But, I can't be the one you use just like that. I'm tired being a sucker. As I said, I don't want to be just a dictionary. There are some free ones on the Internet. If they only need a dictionary, they don't need me.

A very honest Sunday Stealing

The new Sunday Stealing is already here, and because tomorrow is Lil' brother birthday and it's family lunch, I prefer answering now.

FYI, I already read the questions before the copy/paste, so, yes, I will be very very honest in this one.

Third point, I would like to ask to the Presidents/Directors whatever of every companies why they keep hiring people who doesn't have the diplomas or qualifications for the job. Why did we create specific diplomas if now they mean nothing ? I'm 25, 5 years of internship, 2 years by myself with my company and no job. Reason : too young, not qualified. Fuck off. How am I supposed to learn and be qualified if everybody keep saying that ???!!!

It was Loreena McKennitt, Un Flambeau, Jeannette, Isabelle.

16) Simple but extremely complex. Favourite band ?
I may have a favourite band for every kind of music, and try to not include bands with who I'm working. Favourite band, Metallica.

17) What was the last lie you told ?
Probably when somebody asked me if I were good and said yes.

18) Do you believe in karma ?
Nope.

19) What is a saying you say a lot ?
Too many ...

20) What is your greatest weakness; your greatest strength ?
Does a weakness be great ? I don't think so. I'm naive, and wanna see the good everywhere and in everybody. I wanna love all the people I meet, but I'm so wrong. I care too much and too easily about people around me and that's not good ! Not at all ! It's killing me, driving me mad and paranoid !!

21) Who is your celebrity crush ?
Well.... the one and only for me and myself is still Theo Rossi. But, there's also Ryan Gosling, that I share with Pauline, Julie and Mijie...

If you wanna meet more : link number one, link number 2 !

22) Give me the first thing that comes to mind when you hear the word: heart.
Broken.
Because it's exactly how I feel right now.
You know, when you think that you like somebody, that you think that this person likes you too, and that you realize that no. That you're completely wrong.

23) How do you vent your anger ?
It depends. But usual, I write. Maybe I'm too weak to talk. So I write. I blog or write in my notebooks. I don't blog everything. Maybe I'm scared that maybe one of those people read it and ask me to explain...

24) Do you have a collection of anything ?
I used to collect tree leaves and little rocks when I was a kid. Then, the lucky-charms, stamps, champagne caps. Then, "insufficient" papers at the driving test, the negative letters for job appliances, broken heart and bad romance. I need something good in 2012 !

25) What is your favourite word ?
I remember an italian class in Senior Year in High School. It was the last class before Christmas holidays, and so it was not a real class. We studied lyrics of some italian pop songs, and talked about everything and nothing from italian culture, eating some cakes. With two friends, we were thinking about our favourite words, in french, english and italian. I remember this episode, but don't remember what words I chose. For my defence, it was in December 2002... 9 years ago !

Time to watch a short movie, and sleep ! Goodnight people !

vendredi 2 décembre 2011

Goodbye November, see you next year !

So, November is over, I should be very happy because that means that, because today is December 2nd (HAPPY BIRTHDAY CHARLOTTE !!!!), I still have to wait 29 days before the real end of this awful year called 2011 !!

But before.

Before leaving to London, I posted.
I forgot two hearts. One should be for Scotland and their rockstars. Cuz, on November 20th this year, I should have celebrated my 2 years of ... happiness ? stress ? love ? work ?
Yes, on November 20th, I was meeting my lovely rockers, almost all of them, and decided that my life had to change !
Because that week-end of 2009 I became the Fishgirl, I should say that now, the Fishgirl is 2. Wow !

And before that, when I posted that one, I should have add another line. But did not, cuz I didn't want to mix history and this news.
On early November 2010, I was posting that. It started on November 1st, ended around November 12nd, and now, I'm proud to say that TRACK1Music France, my company, turned 1 this month. And... a lot happened to that little one :
The company was created on November 2010 because at this moment, I was dealing with 5 bands, almost 6, and already booked 4 gigs. In France, you can book 6 gigs/year without professional licence. You cannot ask the licence with your own name, you have to belong to a company. You can create a company for free with just you, you pay taxes only if you win money. I created my company because I was booking the last gig of the year, on December 12th.

If I may, this gig changed a lot of things for me.

- I learn how to keep calm when everything was wrong. You know, when you have to reschedule a gig just one week before, when you see it's snowing a lot and you know that the band is coming by plane. When you're f* late, that the manager call you when you're in the very deep tunnel under the planes and you say "I'll be here in 10 minutes, sorry tunnel", that the 10 minutes is more 20 or 25 minutes, and that, for once, the tunnel excuse is true. When you're running everywhere in the airport and finally met three guys that will say thank you whatever happens.
- I learn how being the worst jealous girl in the world. Didn't realize it that day, but, little by little after.
- I learn how stubborn I can be, but not that much cuz some may be more than me. It costed me eyes, patience, tears, laptop... It's called "how to create a poster with Jack and bad pictures !" You have no idea how many times I said to myself that this guy was really lucky cuz two laptops and hundred of kilometres were between us. Note for myself : never create a poster next to him.... :)
- I learn how stressed I can be, but not that much cuz some may be more than me.
- I learn how good it can be to laugh and spend good time. Ok, I want to slap him 90% of the time, but, you have no idea how many good times I spent with him too. I can't tell you with one is my favourite time, but, I know there are a lot.

Josh's gig on December 12th at Le Carmen was my first one with my company.
Then,
it was iMMa on February 24th at l'OPA Bastille.
it was Josh Beech and the Johns vs iMMa on April 27th at Le Yono.
it was iMMa Fête la Musique on June 21st, two gigs, an outside one on Place du Marché Notre Dame, and one at La Royale Factory.
it was The Niro, acoustic set on September 10th at Le Be There.
it was Gary Johnstone fait son Tour de France on September 13th at Le Yono.
it was Gary Johnstone vs MRS GOOD on September 14th at La Royale Factory.
it was Josh Beech and the Johns LIVE ! on October 11st at l'International.

Some were really successful (iMMa on June 21st, Josh on October 11st), other were empty or cancelled (Josh Beech and the Johns at la Bellevilloise on April 29th).
Professionally, I can say that this year was really interesting, I learned a lot, laughed a lot, cried too much. Personally and emotionally, this year was terrible.

I think I care too much for nothing about people around me. I have to learn how to accept a compliment. They all they thank you for what I do for them, but, I don't know how to interpret it. I know it's sincere, but I have to stop imagine romance or whatever everytime a guy says thank you or that I rocked the night.

Now, TRACK1Music France is living a second year. I gave myself three years with my company to meet people and win money. If after three years things didn't change, I stop.

2011 is almost over, and iTunes is playing the song that will help me to survive until January 2012. Here's for you.

Turn The Page - covered by Metallica

PS : about the posters, they are all my creations, please, do not share without my authorisation. I need to find an alias to sign them. Have a nice day.
