Busy friday

But thank God, it's week end now ! And the only thing I'm waiting now is a STORM !! It's so hot and so loud outside !! Awful !!! So please little sky, call your friends clouds and give us some rain !!! And some fresh air !!

I left early this morning with my Mum for the market ! I love the big market of Versailles, especially in Summer because it's more colourful !! You know that you will find this market in all the city guide of Versailles ??!! It's wonderful !

Then, back home, took 5 minutes to check my emails and some blogs and saw a second part of the musical thing I made the other day (here). I found the first part @ Living Happy & Healthy 365 last week and enjoyed answering to the questions (even if it was pretty hard sometimes, I had to resist to not change the track to find another one !!)
And today, I found a second part @ Viva la Fashion ! So, a little copy and past, and here are some new questions and some new answers !!!

Kalinka - The Choir of the Red Army
Note : My biggest secret is that I'm Russian ? Wow, what a scoop !! No Russian roots in the ENTIRE family !!!

What do you think of your friends?
Between the Shadows - by Loreena McKennitt

What will you post this as?
Adagio, From Concerto Grosso Op. 6 No. 8 In G Minor, Christmas Concerto - by Corelli
Note : because it's really hot, and if my memory is good, we hear that music when it's really really hot and that there is no wind in the great Master & Commander : The Far Side of the World, now I want to watch it again !!
I remember when my Dad bought his home cinema, we needed a movie with a great sound to check everything. We chose Master & Commander ! What a mistake !! We had to test a lot of things, and everytime my Dad was saying, put the DVD at the beginning because it's at the beginning that there's the best scene to check ! Enough of the first scene !!

After that, I left to go to the cinema with my little bro. Little movie, he was going with some friends to see Shrek 4. It was very good !! Next movie will be Toy Story 3, but we have to wait July 14th ... ... It is so good to go to the cinema when it's really hot outside !! But it was very hard to leave the fresh cinema to go outside in the hot hot air !

Few minutes after, I was at the mall to see how the June's sales are and wait for my Mum. She called me and said " - I'm at the bus station, I'm gonna wait a little bit more because it's raining so hard that I cannot go now !!"
5 minutes later the rain was over, and it's worse now, so much humidity !!!!!

I'm back home now. Taking a little time to check my emails again (I'm waiting for important answers for my boys, still nothing !!), read the blogs I didn't read this morning, and here, @ Noodles & Waffles I found a surprise !!

Nicole, your thank you is really nice ! You tagged me for the photo thing. I need to go to the 8th photo folder, and need to take the 8th.
I need to post that photo here and tell the story behind it ...

So ... My Pictures, check, no, in fact problem ... The pictures are not here ... I need my external hard drive ...
So ... 8th Folder : Birdy Nam Nam / Yuksek concert @ Le Transbordeur, Lyon, Sat Feb. 07th 2009
8th picture :

As you, maybe, know it, I'm looking for a job in the music industry. Before to find it, I had, during all my years of studies, to do an intership/year. It's a big chance ! I made 5 years of studies, so 5 internships. The problem is that in France, the societies does not consider an internship as a professional experience. So, even if I have 5 internships written on my résumé (with 4 in music industry, OK, one was really really bad and I don't talk about it anymore, so 3 !), it's like I was a novice !! And another BIG problem is that, an intern is not a person who only makes coffee and copies !! No !! Maybe that's what they do in BIG societies, but not where I was !!

The bad one was for a small association. I was supposed to create a database with French, Belgian and Swiss festivals of World Music. Then, I was supposed to contact them to suggest the artists of the association and learn how to complete a grant application. Alone, maybe 1000 festivals for one year in only one of those countries, I made my best to have a lot of festivals, but didn't have the time to finish it (I had only 2 months of internship). And the guy never show me how to complete a grant application. His excuse : it's a small office with only one desk, one computer and one chair ! Yes, I was at the office one day/week, the rest of the week I was working from home ! Pretty bad, and I said it to the woman in charge of internships in my school and wrote it in my internship report !

The real first one was at Rejoyce. A small record company in Versailles. Particularity, the music they're producing is catholic music (I mean with catholic lyrics), and what you have to know is that we don't sell that kind of music in France. People are not listening to that kind of music "because it sucks to be catholic". Nice !

Because I worked with an association of World Music just before, Rejoyce suggested me to work on the tour of an African singer. After that first tour, I had to plan the tour of a French pop rock band. Unfortunately, the two tours didn't work : my African singer was totally unknown in France, and so the festivals didn't want to take the risk of putting him in the programming. Only one said yes. We stopped it. The second didn't work too because the band left the company ...
Even if I didn't have a lot of success, I learn a lot during those 8 months ! And the team was very very nice !! In the same time, I had to write my first thesis, they helped me a lot, and the two bosses came to my viva. It was good to have them !

One of them surprised me a lot. Gabriel is a shy man. During my entire internship I wasn't hearing him a lot ... (he was my tutor ...), and during my viva he had so many things to say !! So many questions to ask !! It was so hard !!

Then, the third. I was an assistant, the assistant of the woman in charge of the promotion for the electronic record company UWe. So many things to learn, so many things to do, so many responsibilities !!! Oh God I loved that internship. When I came for the interview, I was so tired (I was back from a summer camp with my little boys and girls scouts), had no voice, maybe was a little bit burned by the sun, and KNOWING nothing about electronic music ! But I'm the one who had the internship !! I was very happy !!!

And finally, the fourth, the best, the one I won't talk about because I made a hole post about it, here. JARRING EFFECTS !!! And right now, I realize that today we are July 2nd, one year ago I was packing my last boxes to leave Lyon for Paris the next day !! One year ago I already said goodbye to that crazy people !! (my internship ended on Tues. June 30th. First goodbyes on Wed. July 1st, others on Thurs. July 2nd, Farewell on Friday July 3rd, and move back on Sat. July 4th)

Anyway. I discovered Birdy Nam Nam and Yuksek during my four crazy months at UWe. UWe was their record company. The Birdy were working on their second album, Yuksek on several EP, and later on his first record. Unfortunately, I never had the occasion to go to see them in live during those 4 months. Too bad !!

End of 2008, Lyon, the Birdy and Yuksek are everywhere. What's happening ???!!! Second album "Manual for Successful Rioting" for Birdy Nam Nam and first record "Away from the Sea" for Yuksek ! They changed their record companies, UWe doesn't exist anymore. The Birdy belong to Jive Epic @ Sony BMG, and Yuksek to Barclay @ Universal. Both Jive and Barclay transform them, nice little band / artist, in superstars. How ? Because majors have MORE money than a little independent record company. Fortunately the manager is still the same, the crazy Antoine, aka DJ Kraft (the one who created the Technoparade in Paris - a crazy man !! I remember how, 3 months after I began my internship, he called me by my name. I looked at my tutor, she was so surprised too !! And I remember the day he almost fired the stupid administrator who wanted to use me as her "slave" for shopping -so nice to loose two hours to buy paper and envelope- and for post office !! He's been very very good to handle that "problem", she was awfull, new nothing about music industry and wanted to change everything in this nice little society !!)

Anyway.

End of 2008, cold winter, my ancient protégés are everywhere. But no money, I cannot buy the CDs. Here comes December, "Birdy Nam Nam live @ le Transbordeur - Feb 2009". Here comes Christmas. Deal, I buy a ticket to go there ! But, shall I go alone ? No ! In my class, one of my new friend, Valentin (from "the" Bulgaria - no man, you cannot say that in French, say just that you're from Bulgaria !!) doesn't know the band, want to discover electronic music. I gave him the first record that I got from my internship. He gave it back to me saying "I love it !" I told him about the concert, Ok, I come with you !!

Here comes February. Class is over. Last exams are over, only the viva of the f* business plan that killed more students than expected (it almost killed me !)
February 6th, a last electro party organized by the record company of my dear Poussin. Bye bye student life ! During that party, we drink a lot, and Poussin left us a second to go to talk to a guy ... I know that guy ... This is Nico, the guy from Jarring Effects ... So Nico knows Poussin, Poussin knows Nico, and Poussin says to Nico "Flore ? Oh, don't worry, you can kidding her, it's funny" ... Poussin, what did you say ??? Why Nico heard you that night ???!!!
Other beers, tiredness, sadness, everybody laughing, who's drunk ? Me, going outside with a large beer, saying a lot of stupid things, here are two men coming ... Nico, again, and Jérôme ... my future tutor of internship ! Ok, I think we're gonna have fun !
" - By the way, you can come whenever to take your internship contract, it's ready!" Ok Jérôme, thank you !

End of the night, hard moment to go back home, realizing that I will never see them !!

Next night, concert ! It's so cold, it's raining/snowing, we don't really really know, and the Transbordeur, oh God, it's so far away !! Coat, bonnet, gloves, I'm so exciting. I arrive at the sub station, and I'm so hot !!! I arrive at the Transbordeur, meet my friend Valio. We go inside, he asked me if the manager is here, I answered yes and told him that if I see him, we will go to see him (even if I'm sure I will not remembering me, I was right ... We talked few minutes and finally said he was remembering ... Not so sure ... But it was nice !). We choose to take a beer, we waited for our turn, and
" - Oh, Valio, did you see who's the barmaid, it's Nico (another one), he was with us at Ilo's place yesterday evening !"
" - Oh yeah, I remember him!"
And Nico "- Hey folks, you're here !! Here, free beers for you !"
Thank you Nico.

Opening part number one.
Opening part number two ... Go inside, go outside. Outside it's cold without a coat. Inside. Inside the concert hall. Hey, but, the second supporting act is Yuksek !! I almost missed Yuksek !!!
I didn't see his all set, but it was good. The end
" - Good evening, my name is Yuksek !"

They turn on the lights, they need to install four turntablist ! I take that 8th picture of my 8th folder. 15 or 20 minutes later, they turned the lights off. Blue lights, Bonne Nouvelle. Big blue lights. One, DJ Pone. Two, DJ Need. Three, Lil' Mike. Four, Crazy B. They don't remember me, but I do remember them and that wonderful internship !!

" - Oh, you're talking about electronic music in France ?", said by Gary after his gig at l'International.

Yes, for a lot of people, in France, there is a huge difference between dance music and electronic music.

Dance music is the one made by those two DJ we hate : Bob Sinclar, and the one I like to kill with Bichon, David Guetta. In fact, dance music is the one you will hear at the radio. The one produced by the Majors. Unfortunately, Birdy Nam Nam and Yuksek will be soon consider like dance music because, since they're produced by Major companies, their music changed a lot.

Electronic music is more underground, really hard, deep. Electronic music groups techno, dub, drum'b'bass and many others together. It's the artists you will never hear at the radio. And this is were they come from. Some of Daft Punk music are still in Electronic music, others are dance music.

One day, I knew nothing about it. I made two crazy internships there, wrote a second thesis about the promotion made by the independent record companies, the guy who made me pass my viva knew a lot of things about electronic music and we talked a lot about it !
Now, I know everything about it !

;-)

xx
