Have you met Jarring Effects ?

This picture is the result of my life with Jarring Effects.
Jarring Effects is a French record company, based in Lyon, that produce electronic music.

One day, I was looking for an internship. A lot of interview, but nothing. I left a week for one of my last summer camp with my little boy and girl scouts. I was preparing the lunch (in fact, I was fighting against the wind, the rain and the fire I was trying to do, plus with the fact I had no voice and was really really tired !!).
Phone call.
"- Hi, I'm Amélie, from UWe (Who ? What ? ...). I received your résumé and I'd like to meet you for an internship (What ? Who ? Where ? What kind of internship, I'm lost, the only thing I have in my mind is to start this fire !!)"

I met her the next week... Still tired, my voice was back, but not totally, it made her laugh. Few weeks later I was beginning my internship. She was in charge of the promotion of the artists of the label, I was her assistant. Electronic music ? Oops, I know nothing at all !!!

Anyway, it was 4 beautiful months. I've learned a lot !

Next year, I left for Lyon. Tired of Paris, Versailles, of having no job. I have to make another internship, again ???!! I don't know Lyon !! And I don't want to come back to Paris, not yet ! But thanks to UWe, I knew a lot of record companies producing electronic music, and so, I knew that Lyon was an "electronic city". They are all here ! I remembered one name Jarring Effects. Yes, but I knew nobody there. One of my new friend loves electro, and know the JFX guys. Yipi ! He gave me address, phone number, mail.

I sent my résumé, no answer. I sent it one more time. Nothing.
I called once.

" - Yes, promotion's guy is Jérôme, wait a sec."
" - Hi, this is Jérôme (Oh God, did I wake you up at 4:00 pm ??!!), yes I saw your résumé, but didn't have the time to read it, call back next week".

Next week, the same, come on Jérôme, it's just a résumé !!! :)

Interview ! Cool ! I go to the interview just before a big exam (accountancy, beurk).

" - Hi, I'm Flore, I come to see Jérôme"
" - Hi, I'm Nicolas, Jérôme's not here for the moment, but he will be back in a minute, come, I work with him" (Welcome !!)

One hour later, the interview is over, and Jérôme is not back (Welcome !!).

Few weeks later (or days), I finally met Jérôme, in Cannes, during the MIDEM. My friend Poussin (it's his nickname since ever, Poussin is the French name for the chick, Poussin because he is blond like a chick, his real name is Pierre-Marie) told me

" - Hey, this is Jérôme, the guy from Jarring Effects"
" - Yes, the guy I was supposed to meet"
" - Hi Jérôme (oh, you're very sleepy)"
" - Hi ..."
" - I'm Flore"
" - Oh yeah .............. Sorry for the other day ! Nico told me for the interview .. bla bla bla"

After that, I knew I had the internship and that I'll have to work with a lovely CRAZY guy !

I think Jarring Effects has been the best internship. Why ? Because it's Jarring ! Strange music (I'm not a big fan, but I'm a fan because I work with them on it!), great people, so many laughs, so hard to say goodbye after my last day.

I began my internship with Hélène. She was Opti's inter (Opti was the webmaster-illustrator-funny guy, he left few months ago), and she finished one week before me. She's wonderful !! So sweet, so funny !! We were the two crazy interns !! She celebrate her departure one week before me, it was hard !! I was realizing that her time was over, and won't see her again, and soon, it will be mine !! Then my last day. On my way to come back home, I cried. I was almost crying when I was shutting down my computer. Everybody was there. It was so hard to say goodbye !! I needed one hour to say goodbye to everybody (Jérôme, Nico, Opti, Tito, Val, Loïc, Jo - M. Rainbow to me, he called me Rainbow once, because it was raining, I was with my umbrella, and my umbrella is colourful like the rainbow - , Mo, Céline, Gaëlle, Fabou, Gibier, Sofiane, the artists ...). I celebrate my departure, Hélène (aka Bichon; Bichon is the French name for a dog ... Opti called her Bichon one day because he thought she was nice as a dog !) came, we left, I came back home and felt really really bad !! 48 hours later my parents were coming from Versailles to Lyon for my removal !

The AWFUL street ! La Montée de la Grande Côte
The morning, I go down, it's easy
The evening, I go up, it's very hard !!! Specially when it's really really hot outside !!
My door, with the Bass & Breakfast poster (it was on June 20th, it was GREAT !!!!)

I came back to Lyon a first time, on September 9th. It was my viva for my thesis. I arrived the night before, stood with a high-school friend. We spent a wonderful moment. I was supposed to see Nico, and he told me:
" - Today is Filastine's (an artist) birthday, come to Jarring, we're all here having a drink"

" - Thanks Nico, but I know what a drink means for Jarring, and I have my viva tomorrow morning. I'll see you tomorrow afternoon"

Next morning, alarm clock at 8:30 ... I don't need a lot of time to go from the apartment to the Uni. My viva is at 10, I need to be there at 9:30. I go. I arrive there, nobody ... The sun is shining, few students are walking through the corridors ... The girl who was before me is going out. It's over for her, everything was OK. It's my time soon. Where is Jérôme, Jérôme is not here, and he has to be here, he was my intern ship mentor !! He's gonna be late, I'm sure, he's always late !! It's almost 10:00. Here comes my Uni Mentor

" - Flore, I'm really sorry, I cannot stay for your viva, I have an appointment for the Uni. Good luck, I'm sorry and I really wanted to be here because your thesis is really interesting !!"

" - O ... k ..."

I go inside the room ... Just M. Goutte (the wonderful computing teacher !!) and me ...

" - M. Flayac (Jérôme) is supposed to come ... but I don't know when"

" - We should start because there's a lot of other student after you. You should began with your intern ship and the story of the record company, he knows that part, so it doesn't matter if he's not here ..."

" - OK"

I talk, I talk ... Sometimes, he stopped me to say something. He has a lot of questions because he loves electronic music (but sir, you're 50 or 60 ...), he knows that small record company in Versailles (where I made my first internship) ... Everything is perfect. 90 minutes later (the viva is supposed to last 60 minutes), I go out, he has to "ponder" for my grade (he is alone so it's fun). I go out and see Thibaut, one of my very good friend !! He's very angry because he's waiting for HIS viva, his thesis is bad (he said it), he has nothing to say, and I'm late !!
Five minutes later, M. Goutte called me back and gave me my grade : 15/20, so A+. Wonderful !!

I went out, I met Ilo, Charlie, we wait for Thibaut, went to lunch, laugh, spent a wonderful time. I check the hour, I have to go to see the guys, my guys, Jarring guys !!
I left my friends and walked to Jarring, I think I never walked so fast !! I arrived there, I remember Opti's face !! He was so surprised to see me ! It was so good to be back.

" - How are you ?"
" - It's good to see you !"
" - Why are you here ?"
" - I had my viva this morning !"
" - Oh yeah you told me !" bla bla bla
" - Talking about my viva, is Jérôme there ?"
" - No, not yet, why ?"
... Strange face from me ... The guys look at me ... " - WHY ?" " - NO !!!!"
" - Yes guys, Jérôme was supposed to come and he forgot !"
" - No way, he forgot you ???!!!"

Fifteen minutes later, the door is open, here comes Jérôme, smiling, as usual

" - Hi Flore, how are you ? What are you doing here, good to see you"
" - Hum, Jérôme, it was my viva this morning"
" - No, this is a joke"
" - No, no, check your emails ..."
" - F*** !!!!!! I'm so sorry !! Was it ok, I'm so sorry ..."

I don't know why, I was sure he will forget ! But, it's Jérôme, it's impossible to be mad at him !

Last time I went to Lyon was in October, for my graduation. But I didn't have the time to go to see them.

The real last time I saw the guys was in November. Mo (that man is GREAT !!!), Jérôme and Jo came. Nico stood in Lyon, so did Opti and Fabou. It was good to see them, even if at this moment I was meeting new lovers : Talk To Angels, A Joker's Rage and Gloria Cycles.

Goodbye electro, hello rock music !!
