As you know, some Aunts and Uncles arrived at home this afternoon. They're from my Mum. My two Great-uncles are my Grandfather's little brothers. It's nice to see them.
We were talking about different things, and about the Appeal of June 18th. One of them was in the army because he was Fireman of Paris (they belong to the French Army). And then we talked about my Great-great-father (so my Grandfather's Dad), and about his bracelet of the Army. The one he wore during the World War I. The one that my Grandfather gave to my little brother.
The one that says " Vincent Mirande David, Pau, 1917" (+ his military number)
And hearing them talking about French Generals, about General de Gaulle, the fact that we will know only one like him... And my Mum to reminds us something about my Great-great-father.
He was a great soldier, he fought for his country and his freedom, and to thank him, the Army wanted to give him the Legion of Honour. When they say that to him, he simply answered " No thank you". He declined !
Do you know a lot of soldier who says no ???!!
He declined because fighting during the War was his "job", and he only did his job.
My Mum, and my Grandfather, always told me that he was a particular man, with a horrible temperament. But he was also a good man, with a lot of values. And everybody thank him for all the things he made.
He died when my Mum was 8, so I never knew him. And I don't really really knew my Great-great-mother. She was already old and was losing her mind when I was born. I think she died when I was something like 6 ... (I'm 24)
But I hope they will keep telling me stories about him. He had a horrible temperament ? Everyday I hear my Mum saying I have the same !! I'm sure we could have a lot of fun he and I !
;-)
Goodnight !
goodnight x
