60 years ago, Robert Schumann delivered a speech that was giving Europe's bases.
Happy birthday Europe !
What does it mean "being European" ? I remember my European law classes, and this wonderful teacher who was asking us this question. What does it mean to you, being European. Are you only a French person or are you, French and European ? What does it mean, being an European citizen ?
I think that it means a lot.
I'm proud being a French girl, whatever people say about France. I think that my country is a wonderful country, with a lot of history and culture. Maybe France made mistakes in the past, but, in my opinion, we learn from our mistakes, as human people. (and plus, because I'm French, I speak French, and so, I don't need to learn it as a foreign language ! Thank God, because it's a hard language to learn !!!)
Today, there are 27 countries in the European Union. 27 countries unite themselves to be strong, to share products, history, culture, with the others. It's so great !! European Union is a big family that we need to develop and protect. The world suffered from the two World Wars, after the Second one, they realize how cruel people can be, and chose to unite to be sure that it will never happen again. Politics wanted to save their countries, their populations, and it's really important.
French Flags were floating everywhere yesterday for the anniversary of the end of the Second World War. It was beautiful. But, are there many European Flags floating everywhere today, for the anniversary of the idea of creating Europe ? I'm not sure, and I'm little sad about it ...
Symphony # 9 - by Ludwig Van Beethoven, directed by Herbert von Karajan
