I don't know how it really began ... There's always been music at home. My parents, my brother ... Music was everywhere.
And one day, I bought my first album. So proud ! I remember perfectly, it was the album "Spice" by the Spice Girls.
Since that day, I create a real collection. I don't know how many I got now, but I know I take care of them !
A disc is so beautiful ! Reading the booklet is a wonderful moment !
Music was a dream, and I finally took the risk: find a job, having a career in that industry !
I don't have a job yet, but I'll have one !
Few years ago, no - 10 years ago (11 in June), Shawn Fanning created Napster. And I'm in love with that story. In love with the copyrights, and so angry against those who say "they don't need my money, I can download the song/album/discography. If only they knew what's behind the word "copyright". It's not only the money, it's also, creation, work, passion for the music, concerts, tour, goodies, public AND artists.
If the public doesn't buy CD anymore, how the artists will do to release a new album or create a new tour ?
I have to admit that I downloaded many songs. But, only to discover an artist. I cannot take the decision of buying a CD when iTunes let me 20 seconds to appreciate the song ...
The Napster story is really interesting. The guy saw a new way to share music with the others, his shareware could help anonymous artists ...
And then, the trials ! I loved how artists like Dr Dre or Lars Ulrich fought for their music !
Hearing the fans, and public saying it was stupid was horrible.
1. If you're a fan, you don't steal the music of your idol
2. If they do, so they understood nothing !!!
Few months ago, I read a french forum about Jay-Z. He was attacking a restaurant that was playing his music with no authorisation. It was so funny to read the comments !! Everybody was blaming Jay-Z, saying "why is he crying, he has so much money, bla bla bla" I posted a comment explaining everything... Later, somebody replied "thank you, it's very interesting". It made my day !!
(The picture of the day is a picture of one of my bags. The one I had during the MIDEM -2009-
The MIDEM is the International Market of Disc and Musical Publishing - Marché International du Disque et de l'Edition Musicale. It stands every year, in January, in Cannes - South of France, French Riviera. Since few years, Napster is the official logo of the MIDEM)
